Bitter Truth!

Just felt like putting down here somethings that moved me a little today.

This I saw on the news. An Indian army man was killed in an encounter with terrorists at the border. He got a state funeral. And by the way, his dad too was in the army, retired now.
But when his parents went to the authorities to claim the compensation they were promised, guess what happened! Well it seems like this can happen only in our country!!!
They were told that they were not Indians and they needed to prove otherwise! Can you imagine their plight. The father all his life served the Indian army. The son gave up his life for the same. And then hearing this, the world must have come crashing down on them. When will things work right in this world???

Another thing that took me aback. According to latest statistics, every minute, 4 people are losing their jobs in India. Also, the latest place to be affected by the recession is the Gulf. Thousands are being laid off everyday. And Indians comprise of more than 50% of the workforce there. So with so many coming back to India now, we have a bigger problem on our hands that we originally thought!

What is the world coming too!!!

Good Samaritans!

We all relate the term “Good Samaritans” to humans being extra nice and helping fellow humans. Usually that is. How often do we go out of out way to help a poor helpless animal.

Well there still are some people in this world who do that, mind you! And I didn’t have to go very far to experience this gesture. And what I was witness to, made my day.

I live in a society which houses around 16 buildings. This morning I was walking down to a shop to buy some food essentials. On the way what do I see? A cute tiny kitten was trapped on a small ledge on the 2nd floor of one of the buildings. It was crawling to the edge, looking down in disbelief and backing off, fright written all over its face. Below there were a few shops and offices and the hustle bustle of people going around with their daily busy chores and routine.

Suddenly one man noticed this kitten crying for help on the ledge. He was astonished. He called a few others from around who saw the kitten and felt real bad. After some discussion and pondering, a few people walked away and went back to their work, thinking, what the heck, a kitten isn’t that important and I need to get back to my work. But a few good souls stayed back, a few more people joined in. And soon there was a large group of around 10+ people, all looking up. It seemed like a gang of people viewing some marvelous spectacle in the heavens above.

Then someone got a bright idea of getting a ladder. This ladder was put against the building wall and one person bravely volunteered to climb up to the 2nd floor from out, When he reached the top (you could make out he had his heart in his mouth), after much difficulty due to the kitten backing off, he grabbed. Now the kitten with fright started clawing him. The poor guy had his shirt all poked and torn due to that. He didn’t give up. He grabbed it, and then was even more frightened descending down the flimsy ladder with a frightened clawy kitten in his face. Somehow he struggled but managed to come down, much to the cheers of the crowd.
The happiness didn’t end there. This was surely a kitten who lost her family and was lost herself. A young girl staying nearby (a definite animal lover), volunteered to take the kitten home. A perfect ending to what could have been a tragic incident.
Life can be like that sometimes. In a problem, we may find a surprisingly unexpected solution and achieve things otherwise we wouldn’t have dreamt of. Also it teaches us, with a little love, this world can be such a better place.

Cheers!
